ARTIST STATEMENT
"In landscapes, one is
confronted with not only physical forms, but also with the underlying
spiritual content. There is here a structure that underpins all creation.
Quite rightly, we’re obsessed with the need to understand nature
and to transcend its essential qualities. We’re searching for clarity
and comprehension of what we see – we want to understand the law
that governs the physical and spiritual in nature.
It’s not enough to simply describe what we see. One has to recreate
the landscape in painterly form by simplifying and accentuating so that
we can understand the truth and tensions that exist therein. In combining
linear and painterly marks I’m attempting to recreate the organic
nature of forms.
I find it’s just as important what I choose to leave out of my picture,
as what I include, in order to achieve the cohesion and to stress the
rhythms that are fundamental in nature."
