Disher works as printmaker. Exquisite patterns are formed through the process of overlay and image transference. Variations in the opacity of the images used assist in articulating the pattern and offering a depth to the overall composition. The effectiveness of Disher’s process is further assisted through the use of a monochromatic scale. The composition is emphasized by the inclusion of a focal point, such as the heart chocolate and wing, that are delicately detailed and in focus, in order to set it apart from the background. The overall investigation of romance is imbued through the spatial consideration and placement similar to Degas’ monotypes. When viewing the work, Disher’s use of repetition alludes to a gentle undulation that allows the viewer to be enveloped and fall visually into the work. Disher’s work is reminiscent of Morris
and pre Raphaelite work. The work is suggestive of ambiguity while also
being rather evocative in its atmosphere. The eye travels through and
within the work, searching for that place where it can rest and the overall
enjoyment of the work can be experienced. |
