DAVID MELLOWS

A sporting mishap redirected David Mellows to art practice. Having attained a TAFE Diploma (Printmaking Major) in Western Australia and adding some competition results, including the Town of Vincent Art Award in 1998, a move to Melbourne in 2000 placed him in a much more vibrant market. A range of themes and scales in his individual representational style has grown a reputation that now sees his work in galleries in Adelaide and Brisbane as well.

Major popularity in Melbourne is in a newcomer’s look at that urban scenery. Vertical format paintings of Melbourne’s lanes trigger memory and with winning, at first attempt, the ANL Maritime Art Prize (2004), boat pictures are regularly shown in well-supported solo showings. “6+” is a continuation of crowd scenes added recently for fun and expansion.

David's work is represented in public collections including Midland College of TAFE, Family Law Court of Western Australia, Town of Vincent & ANL Shipping. He is also well represented in private collections in Australia, England, Singapore, Italy, Germany & USA.
