Dan Withey

Dan Withey is an emerging artist now living in Adelaide, South Australia, after emigrating from the UK six years ago. He first started to paint 4 years ago having completed a Bachelor in Visual Communication at the University of South Australia in 2007. Whilst studying Dan was awarded first prize in the Design Institute of Australia student of the year awards in the Graphic Design category.

Dan’s work has been published in Monster Children Magazine as part of the Mooks Art Space competition 2009 and he has also completed work for the Tour Down Under 2010 and other companies. Dan works predominantly with acrylics and spray paint and has exhibited extensively in Adelaide over the last four years.

In Dan’s work he deals with his own personal desire to seek freedom from globalization and all the negative aspects that come with it. He portrays this through the use of images of Native Americans and other people that the artist considers to represent true freedom. In his eyes they represent something important that we have lost in our modern day world that has been replaced with fear, paranoia and greed. Dan hopes to help people cut the strings so to speak through his artwork.

The director of Jackman has nominated Withey as the gallery’s next great find. He states, "Dan Withey is an exciting newcomer with a very original style and subject and at this early stage in his art career is a fantastic ground floor investment opportunity. Dan’s first major solo exhibition in Victoria is not to be missed!"
