ARTIST STATEMENT
"Producing art is the positive
outcome of very difficult experiences in my life. The death of my mother
in 1993 was the catalyst for self-examination as a way of overcoming such
a deep loss. I decided formal art study wasn’t the path I wanted to
take, rather I opted for my artistic abilities to develop in tandem with
the deeper understanding borne from experience and a lateral approach to
studying art and life. The depths
and highs of human emotion, situations and people continue to inspire
and motivate me to live my life and create my art as a conscious act of
enjoyment, through embracing the awkward, the difficult, the strange,
the vibrant, the irrational.
The execution of each work is motivated by
personal awareness, exploration and growth. If my art acts a trigger for
the viewer to contemplate aspects of their own lives, the purpose of each
work is further fulfilled."
